Hollywood comes to Ironman
This video seems more like a preview for a Michael Bay produced summer blockbuster starring Johnny Depp or Bruce Willis rather than Kona.

I've been pushing the limits of my endurance my whole life. I've been called a UNcommon man for my relentless pursuit of doing something bigger than I (or most) could possibly imagine. As a soldier, a marathoner, ironman triathlete or hiker, nothing is extreme enough. Finish lines are great, but the true adventure is what it takes to get to the starting line.

the 'YOU WILL DO THIS' doesn't work for me...
and, it's all about Kona.
other than that...
Was it just my imagination or was every shot in that video from Hawaii?
Seems to me that Ironman is about so much more than Kona. Perhaps I'm wrong.
Maybe that has something to do with the average person being unaware that there are Ironman events all over the world.
I think this must be from the pre-race pasta dinner for Kona. It is a logical explanation for the "You WILL do this" slide and all video is from the Island.
Listening to the music is very stirring, like a movie preview.
It's just playing...playing HARD, but just playing.....
(Didn't like the music at ALL!)-
looking at it from a wanna-be perspective, it's pretty cool. While the footage is from Kona, there's nothing that implies that it's all about Kona - thier hightest quality footage is probably from there. I didn't notice the "will" spot the first time around - just more branding using the word will in double meaning - doesnt' bother me, doesnt' excite me either.
What an awful advertisement! I really don't like it! I just feel overwhelmed watching it - not inspired the way the other videos leave me.
Oh, I liked it!
But I agree it's not all about Kona.
The one thing I thought was weird was that, duh -- OF COURSE those people in Kona "will" do it... they already have done it! and they had to beat everybody in their division when they did it or they wouldn't even be in Kona!
You will see me in Kona some day.... as a wetsuit stripper when Lance decides to become an Ironman. ;-)
sorry to rock the boat, but... i liked it. it was really well edited, the music drew me in and the fact that it was kona... well. so much the better. they're the best in their field. it was a promo for ford ironman -- seemed highly appropriate to me, at least from an advertising stand point.
anyway, thanks for posting, i enjoyed it.
I liked the one with the guy laying on the pavement much better-it had the everyday person element. BTW have you watched xterra coverage? It blows away any Ironman video I've seen with perhaps the exception of Kona '03.
Leave it to AJ to see the marketing side.
Allow me to clarify my comments. I thought the video was well made and may have even accomplished their goals.
I'm just making a point from an "outsider's" view. If all they advertise is Kona, that's all anyone will know about. There are people who don't know they can participate in Ironman events.
